The sixth environmental parameter that the HHAQ-106 can measure is enthalpy. Enthalpy is a measure of the energy required to change a substance from a solid to a liquid or from a liquid to a gas. A common use of the HHAQ-106’s enthalpy calculation algorithm is to measure the evaporative enthalpy of air in HVAC/R system ducts.

Omega's HHAQ-106 handheld hygrometer can measure ambient temperature, relative humidity (RH), dew point, and wet bulb temperature, as well as humidity (mixing ratio) and evaporation enthalpy in any environment. These measurements are typically used by three groups of users: water damage restoration contractors; HVAC/R system installers and technicians; and professionals responsible for monitoring and maintaining the environments of office buildings, greenhouses, food and equipment storage facilities, breweries, freezers, containers, computer rooms, labs, libraries, museums, and saunas.


The dew point is the temperature at which, under a given constant air pressure, a certain volume of air will condense into liquid water at the same rate that it evaporates if cooled. Condensation on solid surfaces is called dew. Another way to consider the dew point is as the air saturation temperature relative to relative humidity (RH). A high RH value means the dew point is close to the current ambient air temperature. At 100% RH, the dew point equals the ambient temperature because the air is fully saturated with water. Wet bulb temperature is the temperature that a given volume of air would reach if cooled to saturation (100% RH) by evaporating water, where the latent heat comes from the air volume itself. It represents the lowest temperature achievable under current conditions solely through evaporation. The wet bulb temperature refers to the temperature of skin that is wet and exposed to air, not the actual air temperature—the dry bulb temperature. The environment's humidity level (or mixing ratio) can also be measured and expressed in grains per pound (GPP) or g/kg. For water damage restorers, GPP is more useful than RH as a moisture metric. If you rely solely on RH, a restorer might unknowingly introduce humid air during the working drying stage—low RH but high GPP.
